Ask three technicians how often to service an AC and you'll get three answers — usually correlated with how much work they're looking for. Here's the schedule we actually recommend, based on how ACs age in Indian conditions.
The baseline: once a year, before summer
For a typical bedroom AC used 4–6 months a year, one deep service every year is the minimum that keeps it healthy. The ideal window is February to April — before the rush, when good technicians have open slots.
A proper deep service includes:
- Indoor coil and filter deep cleaning (foam/jet wash, not just a wipe)
- Outdoor condenser coil wash
- Drain line flush
- Gas pressure check with a gauge
- Electrical inspection — capacitor, contactor, wiring
- Test run with temperature reading at the vent
When once a year isn't enough
Move to twice a year if any of these apply:
- The AC runs 8+ months a year (Chennai, Mumbai coastal humidity)
- You're near a main road or construction — dust load is brutal
